Why subscribe?

Following your favourite football team in today’s world isn’t easy. Everybody has an opinion on Liverpool, from the man on the street to the loudest content creator on YouTube to that pundit with a million followers who you don’t really like.

Fresh narratives are constantly being spun surrounding what Arne Slot needs in the transfer market, what went wrong on the pitch on the weekend, and why [insert player name here] is out of form.

Often, very little of what you hear or read is founded on genuine evidence, with lazy clichés dominating mainstream coverage of the sport.

I aim to cut through the noise surrounding the Reds by using as much scientific proof as possible to determine what is actually happening under the hood.

If you want to know the truth about matters to do with Liverpool, and you like your content to be concise and easy to digest, you’ve come to the right place.

Who am I?

I’m Josh Williams, a lifelong Liverpool fan who loves analysing football, but hates how 99 per cent of people do it.

I’m the author of Data Game: The Story of Liverpool FC's Analytics Revolution, I contribute on a regular basis to The Anfield Wrap, and I co-host my own tactics and analytics show on The Redmen TV.

I was a football writer for Reach from 2019 to 2024, before I was made redundant alongside around 400 of my colleagues for not delivering enough page views. Yeah, welcome to modern journalism.

I was expected to produce four articles per day. That’s 20 articles per week on just one team. I didn’t have control over my own headlines, and the brave people who attempted to read my work found themselves bombarded by cheap adverts until they waved a little white flag.

Losing my job was tough, but I needed the change. Here, I’m dropping from 20 articles per week to just two, so if you liked my writing before, you’ll love it now.

While at Reach, I also established my own tactics and analytics podcast with the Liverpool Echo. I hosted around 200 episodes of Analysing Anfield, which was downloaded over a million times in 2023 alone. Here, my podcast has a new home, a new name, and it sits behind a £4.99 paywall.

I received kind messages from all over the world when I announced the end of Analysing Anfield. People from Canada, South Africa, Singapore, Australia, UAE and the US reached out to suggest that I do my own thing, so here I am.

If, like me, you care about considered opinions, data-fuelled insights and accurate analysis, please give me your support to make this work.
