Great piece as always Josh - just wanted to ask if we can take a moments silence for ETH on this week’s pod. Genuine shame to see this banter era end! Can we also always remember the Gnev prediction of utd 3rd and pool 5th at the start of the season. After 9 games we have double the amount of points… that is all
Share the exact same sentiment, so I was surprised about some of the negativity from fans post-match. Definitely not surprised by the punditry and their favoring of Arsenal, but even that told me that Slot and the Reds had a good showing for themselves. Constant excuses about the Gunners’ injuries and their short comings, but they’re also title challengers? Liverpool just showed up at the Emirates a few months into Slot’s tenure and went head to head with a team that are “champions elect” and are years on in their squad building and tactical development. I’d love to see Slot’s Liverpool in the amount of time Arteta has had to build Arsenal. Probably will have more trophies 😏 Cheers Josh!
Great analysis Josh. Another thing we've seen is that Slot is a fast learner and technically flexible, willing to adapt. It bodes well for the return matches. This run of games are also against those that play front footed and with intensity so the last few games are preparing us for Brighton, Villa, Real Madrid and Man City, though their style is different. Interesting times.
I learned that Liverpool need a plan for the left flank, in and out of possession. Lack of progression to the final 3rd and losses in our own 3rd which led to free kicks and bookings.
At the start against Leipzig, left side seemed to be the default for playing out, but play broke down too often, so Virgil shifted play to Konate, Trent and Ryan, somewhat supporting Leipzig’s plan which led to them having shots. This continued until we scored and the game state changed in our favor.
Mid term we might need to recruit an upgrade on Robbo. Josh has probably already prepared a list.
I agree with your overall sentiment and I also think a point that’s been overlooked in all reports in the media so far is the Arse shithousing they did which killed our momentum when we could have got them for a few goals if we’d gotten going. I refer to Rayas yellow and all the rolling around they did.
Love the video Josh (I think done specifically for this article). Nice interlude interspersed in the writing. Really makes your work standout in originality compared to the other stuff out there.
Arne is still learning about our team and about these opponents - considering he came from the Dutch league he is not used to this high level of competitor and these are the very first time he is facing them.
He seems to be a great and fast learner .... let's hope that is the case and we will get even better during the course of the season
You could blame VVD for not helping Robbo out on the first goal, but you can also point out that Robbo yet again can't hold an offside line to save his life

Ha, I actually did mention a minute silence on the pod this week. Although it might have ended up being more like a second.

Love the line about Arteta's hair.

100% this ... Arteta does have them trained in the dark arts
Like FairPlay to being the PLs Simeone but please Lord someone call it out. Nobody mentioned that anywhere.

Thanks Juliette, glad you liked it.
