Another interesting perspective Josh. Having Slot be the mechanic servicing what's under the bonnet is the most important factor in our favour as we head towards the halfway stage. Hopin he has the courage to play 2nd string in the domestic cups, apart from the finals.
Yep, agree with everything there Josh. Great article. Came out the ground on sat, disappointed at first but thought about the bigger picture and was alright with it in the grand scheme of things. Playing meh and getting a draw at Newcastle was fine, then when Fulham had an extra man and a referee on their side, to belt out that xg and dominate possession like we did for large parts of the game was excellent. Up the calm and efficient reds
Great as always! In America, we call em bachelor and bachelorette parties. The first time I heard “hen parties and stag dos,” I thought it was the funniest thing ever. Keep it up mate!
Great writing as always and I'd be interested to know if you believe Chelsea are title contenders when there underlying numbers Xg against isn't so good
not sure 'the long game' is an 'ideal' descriptor for the current version of the mighty roulette rolling Reds but it's good to know the odds are in our favour.
I am starting to get a tad worried that the longer we go without a full set of defenders the fabric on which this team is built will start to fray. The lack of rotation due to injury is what killed last season and I hope it doesn't happen again. If Tsimikas and Konate can be back in the next few games I think we can all (me) chill out. But any longer and the draws and defeats might start coming with greater frequency.
For sure we raised our intensity for Man city and Madrid, but too many times this season we've effectively took the first half off and the press becomes overly passive.
All I'm saying is more often than not, we've managed to keep teams at bay, despite our shortcomings in the first half, but against Fulham we were made to pay for it. Ref decisions aside, we were sluggish and we went a goal down and got reduced to 10 men because of it.
To be honest Josh, against Fulham, before the Robbo sending-off, it was more likely that we concede a second goal than equalize. The red might have been a blessing, it woke us up a bit!
You can argue it was the first game where we were made to pay for starting sluggishly. It is interesting because Slot also seems unsure about why we are slowly starting games.

So the Slot Machine always wins in the End. Cool analogy. and very true...

Tackled Chelsea on this week’s podcast, out tomorrow.

One of your best this, Josh, superbly put.
Thanks Ross, cheers mate.

I needed to read this today as we start to see Chelsea on our shoulders - thanks Josh
Great vis… and I hope so mate! Need those results to start going back our way though…
It's also getting to the stage where a Chelsea win feels inevitable. Be nice if they drop a few points over the next few 'easy' games..
